Effects of Climatic Conditions, Season and Environmental Factors on CO2 Concentrations in Naturally Ventilated Primary Schools in Chile

Between the ages of 6 and 18, children spend between 30 42 h a week at school, mostly indoors, where indoor environmental quality is usually deficient does not favor learning. The difficulty delivering air (IAQ) in learning facilities related to high occupancy rates low interaction levels with windows. In non-industrialized countries, as cases presented, most classrooms have no mechanical ventilation, due energy poverty lack normative requirements. This fact heavily impacts students’ outcomes. aim paper identify factors that determine acceptable CO2 concentrations. Therefore, it studies free-running naturally ventilated primary schools Chile, aiming impact contextual, occupant, building design factors, using concentration proxy for IAQ. monitoring CO2, temperature, humidity revealed above 1400 ppm time, peaks 5000 during day, especially winter. statistical analysis indicates dependent on climate, seasonality, while independent outside temperature heated classrooms. odds having concentrations are bigger when temperatures high, there need ventilate cooling.
